WRITTEN TENDERS trill bo received at this office up to 4 p.m. on WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 1874, for the CONSTRUCTION of the PAREORA CONTRACT of the above Railway. They must be addressed to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, and marked outside, “Tender for Pareora Contract of the Timaru and Waitaki Railway.” Plans and specifications may be seen at the Public Works Offices, Wellington, Christchurch, and Timaru. Telegraphic tenders, similarly addressed and marked, will be received, if presented at any telegraph office by NOON of the same date, provided that written tenders in due form are lodged at the office of a District or Resident Engineer by the above hour. Tenders addressed to the Hon the Minister for Public Works, and marked outside, “ Tender’s for Hamilton Court House,” will be received at the office of the undersigned up to 4 o’clock of MONDAY, the 13th day of July, 1874. .Telegraphic tenders will be received provided the original tender and deposit are lodged with the nearest District Engineer, at the time above specified. TENDERS will be received np to the 15th JULY, 1874, for the CARTAGE of FIFTEEN TONS, more or less, of TELEGRAPH MATERIAL, between Wellington and Masterton, the material to be laid at points along the present line of telegraph, in such quantities as may hereafter be directed. Tenders, endorsed “Tenders for Cartage Telegraph Material," to be sent in not later than the 15th July, and to state time required for completion of the work. Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of £25, as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. The TELEGRAPH COMMISSIONER is prepared to RECEIVE TENDERS for the SUPPLY and DELIVERY of FIVE HUNDRED (500) TELEGRAPH POLES, more or less, for a line of Telegraph between the Town of Foxton and the Town of Palmerston North. The poles to be sawn from the heart of totara. The poles to be of the following dimensions : —Twenty-five (25) and twenty (20) feet long in proportions hereinafter to be determined, but the greater portion will be twenty (20) feet Ion", to be eight (8) inches square at the butt, and six (0) inches square at the top. The poles to be sound, straight, and free from shakes, knots, and sap. N.B. —No pole will he accepted vMch contains the least sap or sptecMed timber, and should any pole be brought on to the ground not in accordance with the specification, the same will be cut in half prior to being rejected. The poles will have to he delivered at points not less than four (4) chains apart, along a line eff telegraph to be hereafter more particularly indicated by pegs, which will follow, as a rule, along the present tramway from Foxton to Palmerston north. The delivery of the poles to commence on the Ist September, 1874, and the whole to be delivered within three (3) months of the date of signing the contract, under a penalty of five (£5) pounds per diem for every day beyond the time specified, which penalty will be recoverable from the contractor from any sums that may he, or become, due to him under his contract. Progress payments will be made at the rate of eighty (80) per cent, as the works advance, the balance on completion of contract. The contractor will not ho allowed to lot or sub-let his contract without the consent in writing of the Telegraph Commissioner, or of the person authorised by him to act on his behalf. Tenders are to specify the price per pole as per sizes given. Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of fifty pounds (£SO) as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer, should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to become bond for the due performance of the contract in the event of the tender being accepted, and must bo accompanied by a notification to the effect, signed by the two proposed sureties. Tenders endorsed, “ Tender for the Supply of five hundred (500) Poles, more or less, for Telegraph Lines between Foxton and Palmerston North,” and addressed “The General Manager, Telegraph Department, Wellington,” must he sent in not later than the Ist August next.
