RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Thursday, June 25. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., E.M.) THREATENING LANGUAGE. J. Campbell, charged with using threatening language towards Sergeant Monaghan, was dismissed with a caution, having been a week in custody. CIVIL CASES. Groves v. Jackson —a claim of £3l 45., for injury sustained by the bite of a dog,—was settled by the acceptance of £7 155., which the defendant had paid into Court. Stuart v. Bethune and Hunter—Claim £42 IGs. 2d. The statement of Mr. Travers, for the plaintiff, showed that a case of lamps, which was placed in the hands of the defendants for sale by auction had deteriorated greatly on account of their non-compliance with the instructions of the plaintiff. Being submitted to auction subsequently by another auctioneer, the lamps resulted in a loss of ordinary profit and interest, and this view of the case having been controverted by the other side, the case was adjourned for a week, by consent of both sides, to allow the Resident Magistrate to fulfil an urgent engagement elsewhere. In the following cases judgments were given for plaintiffs for amounts claimed and costs ; Gibson v. Hooper, claim £4B 18s. 3d ; Carmont v. Downes, claim £4 8s 7d.
