[Pbess Telegraph Agency.] Auckland, Tuesday. Messrs. Brogden and Sons have purchased the schooner Clio from Mr. J. L. Macfarlauc.' The vessel is to bo employed in the coasting trade. G-eahamstown, Tuesday. A man named John Perritt was killed in the Pumping Association shaft at noon to-day. He was working in the 220 foot level, when the chain attached to an iron rod, a portion of the hydraulic lift, gave way, carrying away the stamping, on which Perritt stood. The fall was 70 feet to water, and several feet of bad air. Minors went down at once, and the body has since been recovered, fearfully mangled the skull being shattered. It appears that the deceased struck against the open column pump and fell down. The first case as to the drainage question comes on in the Warden’s Court to-morrow. Lyttelton, Tuesday. A portion of the Atrato’s immigrants were forwarded to Timam by the s.s. Beautiful Star. Little is made known as to the state of the Northampton’s immigrants at the quarantine station. Gbeymouth, Tuesday. Tenders have been called for the launching' of the steamer Waipara into the river, a distance of 150 yards. The vessel has sustained no damage as yet. Dunedin, Tuesday. The Superintendent and Mr. Donald Held are to he present at the ceremony of turning the first sod of the Waieku and Southland light lines of railway, towards the end of the week. Port Chalmers, Tuesday. A case of crimping was tried in the Court to-day. The accused was only proved bo have aided, not to have persuaded. Tire Act only provides for persuasion, and tho case was consequently dismissed.
