Monday, June 22. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) Drunk.—Three drunkards were fined nominal sums. Creating a Disturbance.—W. Ladd was charged with creating a disturbance in the Theatre on Saturday evening during the performance. Sergeant Monaghan stated that the prisoner was very disorderly and had to be removed after being warned several times. Pined 205., or in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Drunk in Charge op Horse and Dray. • —David Laird was fined 10s. for this breach of the City Bye-laws. Threatening to Destroy Life and Property.—Peter Hansen was charged by C. V. Aston with threatening to do him grievous bodily harm. The prosecutor stated that the prisoner was discharged from his employ on Saturday night, but as he did not seem inclined to leave the place, witness told him to leave the tent, when he pulled out a knife and advanced towards witness in a threatening manner. Moved away from him, and made a bed which prisoner wanted to sleep in, but he eventually went away. On Sunday he came to witness and asked for his clothes. Told him he had taken them away. He then wished to take away a shirt belonging to a boy in witness's employ, but was prevented. He then took up a pipe which did not belong to him, and put it in his pocket, and, after denying possession of it, gave it back to the boy. He then threatened to strike the boy, and they went outside and began to fight. Prisoner again pulled out his knife, and witness took an iron bar in his hand to defend himself. He said he would have the lives of two men in the tent, and after making this announcement he went away, and information of his conduct was given to the police. This evidence was corroborated by the boy Mahoney, in Mr. Aston's employ. In compliance with an application from the police, the prisoner was remanded for a week. civil oases. In the following cases jtidgments were given for the amount claimed and costs :—Shute v. McEachen, olaim £2 Is. 3d. ; R. Martin v. Stainnis, claim £l3 15s. Id.
