MELBOURNE. The Aryits of June 1 reports In the import market little of importance was allowed to transpire throughout the forenoon. The arrival of the mail steamer at Adelaide was telegraphed shortly before 12 o’clock. Candles are inquired for, and offers for D.1i.0. are made at ll£d., without leading to business. Salt is beginning to move again. We hear of one shipment of coarse and one of fine having been taken up on private terms. In liquids we note small sales of Hennessy’s pale brandy at 10s. 101 d„ and of Hcnnessy’s case at 31s. MAURITIUS. The Melbourne Aryan of May 27 reports The Naworth Castle from Port Louis has brought Mauritius advices to 2nd April. From a private communication we extract the following regarding the hurricane which occurred at the end of March: —Tins hurricane has done the most serious damage to the next crop, which is estimated at 40.000 tons under the yield of the past one, and that only attained 120,000 tons. The wind for hurricane weather was comparatively moderate, but being accompanied with a deluge of rain for five consecutive days and nights, made together sad havoc in the cane fields. Buildings generally have not suffered much, neither lias the damage to the shipping in the harbor been important, but the canes have been ravaged most severely from the long duration of the bad weather, and the immense quantity of rain that attended it. The los3 to the colony by this cruel visitation is computed at £1,000,000 sterling, which is a large sum for so small a community. Prospects are consequently very gloomy, and it will take some time to recover from the effects of so dire a catastrophe. Our coming crop being so largely compromised will be manipulated late, and will hardly be begun before August. Messrs. Ireland, Fraser, and Co. write The hurricane lias put a stop to business. The bulk of the sugar damaged and, destroved in store consists of whites, and thi3 wiil doubtless make holders firmer, especially in view of the extended delay in beginning next crop and the serious reduction in its amount. An exceptional sale of finest yellows was made at §0 .85 to close accounts, but holders generally asked 87.15. The demand for tonnage to the colonies was extremely limited, and exchange on Melbourne and Sydney was at 2A per cent, premium for document bills. The only vessel loading for the colonies was the Ilavilah for Melbourne, CSO tons. AMERICA. From American circulars summarised by the [Melbourne Aryus, we learn that a vessel named the Thames cleared on the 21st March for Adelaide and New Zealand with 0,100 cases oil. Among the vessels loading at Boston, was the Bunker Hill, for Melbourne and Dunedin.
