THE NGHAURANGA ROAD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Will you oblige me with a brief space in your columns for a small local matter * I wish to ask, whom we have to thank for the exceedingly dangerous state of the Nghauranga road, which at one part, just below Angel’s Bridge (known as Death’s Comer) is too narrow to allow two carts abreast, yet where a sheer fall of twenty feet into the stream is left in these days of constructive progress, entirely unprotected ? It has been my lot, on two occasions in the last five weeks, to meet vehicles coming down the road at this exact spot. On both occasions loss of life was prevented—in one case, by the skill and care of *Cobb’s driver. I am aware, sir, that this matter has been twice brought before the Provincial Council by the younger of the two membres for Borirua, as yet without practical result. Possibly action is deferred until after the Coroner’s inquest. If nothing else were done, a few pounds’ worth of fencing at this spot would not be an extravagant outlay on the only avenue to Wellington for the settlers of the West Coast.—l am, &c., ' SECURITT. June 8.
