GENERAL SYNOD OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH.

TUESDAY, JUNE 3. The Primate took the chair at 4 p.m., and opened the proceedings with prayer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. EEX’OKTS. The report of the Select Committee on the Melanesian Mission was brought up and read. .Archdeacon Maunsell brought up a supplementary report from the Committee on Trusts, which was read. The Rev. Mr. Beaumont brought up a report of the Committee ou Statistical returns, which was read. LEGISLATION. The Bishop of Wellington, in the absence of Mr. W. H. Quick, moved for leave to bring in a Bill intituled “A Statute to Regulate Legislation.” The motion was agreed to, and the Bill brought in and read a first time. BISHOPRIC OP MELANESIA. Mr. Acland brought in a Bill to amend Statute 11, clause 7, which was read a first time ; also a Bill to amend Statute No. 1, danse 1, which was likewise read a first time. STANDING ORDERS. Mr. Acland moved. That the Printing Committee lie requested to re-arrange the Standing Orders in groups with headings, and to append .side notes ; also, that they be empowered to make the following verbal alterations, viz,, to omit the word “ and” in fifth line, Order No. 27, and to alter the word “ Bill” in Orders No. 24 and 25. The motion was agreed to. STATUTE NO. 1. Mr. McKkllar moved, Tor leave to bring in a, Bill to Amend Statute No. 1, by substituting the following words in lieu of Clause 6, viz. :—“ Any Bishop, or in the event of therebeing no Bishop, the person for the time being at the head of any Missionary diocese duly associated with the General Synod, may appoint two clergymen and two laymen to represent the said Liocese in. the General Synod. Provided that if such appointment bo not made before the meeting of the General Synod, it shall be lawful for the Primate to make such appointment.” The motion was agreed to, and the Bill road first time, ST. JOHN’S COLLEGE, The Bean ok Chrlsiciiukch obtained leave and brought in a Bill to regulate the affairs of till-i College, The Bill was read a first time. CONSTITUTION. ,\fr. Siavell moved the second reading of a Bill to make certain necessary alterations in the formal organisation of the Church. The Bill (which will be found in another column) was read a second time, passed through

committee without amendment, and ordered to be printed. NEW I.ECTIONAIIY. The Bishop of Wellington moved for the appointment of a select committee to inquire into the desirableness or otherwise of adopting the new Lectionary. After* some debate, the Dean of Christchurch moved as an amendment, That this Synod accepts the revised lectionary which has been adopted by the Church of England with the consent of the Crown and Convocation. The amendment was thou put and lost upon division, the numbers being Ayes. Hoes. Bishops ... 3 Bishops ... 3 Clergy ... 12 Clergy ... 7 Laity ... 10 Laity ... 11 Archdeacon Harper moved as a farther amendment, That this Synod does not refuse its sanction to the use of the revised table of lessons in any Diocese in which the Synod of the Diocese shall agree to accept the same. The amendment was withdrawn by consent, upon the understanding that the committee to be appointed under the original motion should report before the dissolution of the session. The original motion was then put and agreed to. HOUR OF MEETING. On the motion of the Bishop of Auckland it was agreed that the Synod, for the remainder of the session, should meet at throe o’clock in the afternoon. THE PENSION FUND. On the motion of Archdeacon Stock', the following names were added to the General Pension Board, appointed to make inquiries and to collect data in reference to the state of each Diocese, os to the amount of help it may need and the funds it can contribute to the General Pension Scheme:—The Bight Bov. B. W. Harper, Messrs E. Pearce, and W, H. Quick. Archdeacon Stock moved then, That should it appear before the next Session of the General Synod, that all the Diocesan Synods of this Ecclesiastical Province shall have given their assent to the scheme prepared by the Pension Board ; the members of the Pension Board belonging to the Diocese of Wellington, shall act as the General Pension Board of the Synod, until the end of the next Session of the Synod, or until their successors be appointed. The motion was agreed to. TRUSTS. The Synod went into committee to consider reports on trusts, which were discussed at length, and the Synod adjourned at twelve o'clock p.m.
