Kattau. —The Goyernor is. making very extensive additions and ..improvements in his Island residence at thekawau. We have been permitted to inspect some plans, sliowing a -very handsome extension of hw residence, providiflg neV drawirig-roooos and bed-jrooros, and a very handsproe stairs ar\d balustrade into the, garden at the >rest end of^the house, the building is to be brick; with stone foundations. I We have been informed that the Governor has added another island \o Bis domain, and purchased from the Maoris a very large strip of the mainland. The improvements are under the superintendence of Mr. W. Avery, of 8.
Auckland.—N.Z.Herald, April !t! t Mjlitab* Movements.^-A. detachment of the 18th Koyal Irish left Otahuhu yesterday,, and embarked on board the s.s. Rangatira to join the head-quarters of the regiment in Wangantti. The remainder of the 14th, at present stationed in Albert Barracks, left yesterday afterdoon for Wanganui'. .These two detachtti'ehts amounted to atiout 50 men. D. A. C. G. Heylatid proceeds by this vessel to a new scene of labdprs in the South. The port of Onehiinga presented a busy scene, owing \o the shipment of 50 horses, and an equal number of men of the Commissariat Transport Corps. This was cleverly managed, under the able Bu'perintendenbe of D. C. G. Bailey, Director of the transport Corps, who personally superintended the embarkation of his men and horses. We understand that he proceeds shortly to Wanganui on a tour of inspection. , Major yon TemjSsky, and 100 of the Forest Rangers, Jeave Port Waikato/to-day for Wanganui.—lb.
