The brig Dart, Captain Scaplehorn, arrived on Wednesday last from Sydney aftef a protracted and boisterous passage of 19 days, having sailed from Sydney on the 17th ult.- She brings 12 passengers and a cargo of merchandise, some portion of which is for Lyttelton. The Brigantine Robert and Betsy arrived in port on Thursday last from Otago bound to Auckland with about 50 diggers, who intend trying their luck at the’ Coromandel gold fields. During the month our harbour has presented quite a brisk atld business like appearance. There has been three ships from England discharging, besides a more than usual number of smaller vessels from other ports. There has been 38 arrivals, and 36 departures. The arrivals include 1 from London,*4 from the Australian Colonies. 11 from Otago and Lyttelton, and the remainder from the Northen Provinces; Napier, arid the Coast. The Aliterope left here on the 19th ult. for London with a full cargo of wool and other produce ; the ship Wild Duck has commenced taking in wool for London, and from the quantity of wool in store, will meet with despatch ; the barque Arabella will sail for Napier in a few days, where she will load for London ; the barque Prawning Beauty will take a quantity of wool to Sydney. There has been a considerable trade between here and Otago during the month, 9 vessels having sailed with cargoes of stock and other produce, and there are twb vessels at present on the berth for that port.

The clipper ship Wild Duck, Criptaid Bishop, One of Messrs. Shaw, Saviß, & Co.’s line of packets, ar. rived on Monday, the 20th January, from London,after a quick passage of 97 days from the Downs, whence she sailed on the 15th October. She brings about 40 passengers, among whom we are glad towel, come back our old fellow colonists Mr. and Mrs. H. St. Hill, who have returned after an absence of nearly two years The Wild Duck has made a good trip to and from London ; she sailed from Wellington' on the 21st of last March, having thus been absent just ten months, including a detention of nearly three months in London. She brings a large cargo for this port, and is consigned to Messrs. Bowler, Son, & Co. The clipper ship Aslertipe, Capt. Mitchell, the first ship of the season, sailed on Sunday, the 19th January, for London direct with a full cargo of wool and other produce valued at £33,887 Bs. 7d„ and 11 passengers. She sailed in fine trim, and being a smart ship is expected to make a quick trip hd.me. A. F. Adams, Esq., Deputy-Commissariat General, and Mrs. Adams are passengers by her.
