Commercial Record.
Spectator Office, September 25, 1858. The public events of the week, viz., the departure of the troops and the much lamented death of Mr. M'Donald, have cast such a gloom over the town, that business has been almost stagnant, only two public sales having taken place, and but little done at either. One was on Tuesday, when Messrs. Duncan & Vennell offered a large quantity of gOods imported by Messrs W. Hmkson & Co., but with very little success, and the other on Wednesday, when Messrs. Bethune and Hunter sold 12 tuns humpback and black oil at XlO per tun, 20 tons potatoes at £(i ss. to £6 10s. per ton, and a few articles of New Zealand made furniture. The Burnett has arrived from Sydney with an assorted cargo, but no vessel from Melbourne, the English Mail therefore has not come to hand, and was three days overdue in Sydney when the Burnett sailed.
