Last Wednesday according to an advertisement which had been published for some months previous, there was to have been a sale by tbo Provincial Government of the land reclaimed from the Harbour ; but there wns no snlo for the very sufficient reason that no one attended, Yesterday occurred the “ last act of this eventful history,” the delivery, nnmely, by his Honor Mr. Justice Grcsson, of his Judgment in the case of Worsley v the Superintendent of Wellington, which will be found in our columns, in which he decided that the Superintendent under the Provincial Act cniin° grant a title, through the bungling "'O’ 111
which that Act is drawn up, and because it does not confer upon him authority to sell. At the period of the last sale in April the Independent was full of abuse of the Spectator and of the Radicals for the course they thought it their duty to pursue with reference to this question. The result however sufficiently justifies all that we then advanced on the subject, while as wo showed al the time the Radicals really enhanced the value of the ground instead of depreciating it, since their purchases were in advance of the upset price. At the last sale no one was found to give a single bid, let us hope the end will be that this land will bo saved for its proper and legitimate uses—namely to form an endowment for the Wellington Corporation.
