AUCKLAND.

Auckland, 23rd December, 1852. Gold Circular. — By our circular of the 13th instant, we reported the first sale of Gold, the product of this Province — which was held at our mart on the 1 1th inst. We have now to state that on Wednesday, 22d inst.. we offered at public auction, pursuant to advertiseI ment, about one hundred ounces of gold dust and quartz, and about twenty pounds weight of auriferous sand from the Wynyard diggings, ] Coromandel, — the whole being supposed to con- i I tain about forty ounces of gold. This was offered in small lots with a reserve price equal to its supposed intrinsic value, but ; in consequence of the want of certainty on this point, very few biddings were obtained. Only one lot (the gold separated by crushing from an ounce of dust) finding a purchaser at £2 for the lot. After the auction, the whole was disposed of by private sale, as follows : — oz. dirt. gr. Golddust 212 2-1 Soldfor A button of pure gold obtained ' L from an ounce of the above (£9OO —weighing..... 0 14 OJ One oz. of nuggets from the Waion C*eek. 3 0 0 The remainder at £3 per ounce for the gold contained in the lot— say 30 to 350z. at 60s 100 0 0 £112 0 0 This lot is to be transmitted to Sydney, and its yield of gold ascertained and duly certified, a liberal advance upon its supposed value being paid in the mean time. We shall look with interest to the return to this enquiry, which will doubtless assist in placing this important and rapidly increasing branch of our commerce upon a proper basis. We trust that the necessary facilities for separating the gold from the quartz and other extraneous substances, will soon be available here, so that our miners may be enabled to bring their gold to market in a more mercantable state than at present.
