A Deputation from the Hutt District, consisting of Mr. A. Renal), Mr. H. Stilling, and Mr. J. White, waited unon His Excellency the Governor-in-Chief on Monday last, with a copy of certain resolutions in respect to a Fencing Ordinance passed unanimously at a Public Meeting held at the Aglionby Arms, on Thursday the Bth inst. The Deputation was received by His Excellency with great kindness and was favored with a lengthened interview. In addition to the proposed Fencing Ordinance the Hutt settlers, finding themselves aggrieved by the present Slaughter House Ordinance, passed a resolution at the meeting of the Bth to the effect that the Hutt District might be relieved from the operation of the Ordinance, which His Excellency appeared to consider could easily be done. The want of roads in the district communicating with the present great road was also discussed, and his Excellency mentioned the intention of the Government to re-survey the whole valley, when care would be taken to correct this serious evil. His Excellency then introduced the subject of forming the settlers in the Hutt district into a corporate body, with power to make certain bylaws, so that all local matters would be under their own control and management. The Deputation being unprepared for the consideration of so important a measure undertook to bring the matter before their fellow-settlers at a Public Meeting on an early occasion.
