MILITARY.
The Vacant Colonelcies.— The Colon elcy of the 15th Hussars has been conferred on Major-General Brotberton, Inspector-Ge-neral of Cavalry. Major-General Sir John Grey has been transferred from the 73rd to the sth Foot. Major-General Hare Clarges (better known in the army as Major-General Hare) has sncceeded Sir John Grey in the Colonelcy of the 73rd, and the Colonelcy of the 28th Foot has been given to Major-Ge-neral Duffy, C.B. In the Gazette of the sth June, MajorGeneral Sir Joseph Thackwell and MajorGeneral Sir W. R. Gilbert were gazetted as Knights Grand Cross of the Order, of the Bath, and Colonels Hon. H, Dundas, 60th j Rifles, and Colin Campbell of the 98th regt., Major-General W. S. Whiab, and Colonel J. Cbeape of the Bengal Engineers, and H. M. Elliott, Esq.,- Secretary to the Governor of India in Council, Knights Commanders of the said Order. Twenty-one LieutenantColonels in the East India Company's service had also been appointed Companions of the Order.
The following promotions werp also in the London Gazette of June sth. — Brevet. To be Lieutenant-Colonels — Major M. Smith, 29th Foot 5 Major J. H. Grant, C. B k , 9th Light Dragoons? Major M. G. Dennis, 60th Foot ; Major E. Lugard, 29th Foot : Major H. Bates, 98th Foot ; Major J. W. Yerbury, 3rd Light Dragoons ; Major J. E. W. Inglis, 32nd Foot ; Major A. G. Blachford. 24th Foot. To be Majors — Captain C. J. Otter, 61st Foot ; Captain A. L. Balfour, 32nd Foot ; Captain J. C. Kennedy, 18th Foot ; Captain W. Unett, 3rd Light Dragoons ; Captain J. C. Campbell, 9th Light Dragoons ; Captain H. E. Longden, 10th Foot ; Captain E. Haythonre, 98th Foot ; Captain E. J. Pratt, 9th Light Dragoons ; Captain F. P. Haines, 2 1st Foot ; Captain R. A. Yule, 9th Light Dragoons ; Captain Hon. F. W. H. Fane, 25th Foot.
