NEW ZEALAND AGENCY.
MR. F. W. JERNINGHAM begs to inform his friends and the colonists, that he is about to return to England by the Caledonia, in April next, and intends to open a General Agency Business in London in connection with this colony. His chief object will be introducing, not only to the English public, but to the foreign markets, the new and valuable productions of New Zealand. He therefore solicits their support, and assures them that all business entrusted to his care will meet with the strictest attention and despatch. Parties wishing to ship by the Caledonia, not having Agents in England, can make arrangements with Mr. Jerningham during the next month, or by application to Messrs. Clifford & Vavasour, Wellington. SIGNAL STATION.
MOUNT ALBERT. The following are the Signals used at the Flag-Staff ; afe Mouat Albert. A Square denotes a Ship ~) When the - A Cross " a Barque | vessel ferswdfc A Circle " a Brig '. the HEAItiS A Triangle " a Schooner f the FLA& A Diamond " a Cutter I will be A Parallelogram a Steamer J lowered. Remarks. — A White Flag at Mast Head denotes -a sail in sight ; when the class is ascertained, the descriptive Signal will be hoisted at the Yard Arm. English vessel of war, Union Jack at Mast Head. Foreign vessel of war, Union Jack at Mast Head, with white Pendant. Government Brig, white Pendant under descriptive Signal. When a vessel is at anchor, either inside or outside lie Heads, the flag is lowered to half mast. A vessel in distress, or on shore, descriptive signal-half mast. Fore and aft schooner, a triangle, hollow in thacentre.
PROPERTY RATE REPEAL ORDINANCE. (Passed the Bth day of April 1845.)
Whereas an Ordinance enacted by the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Session 4, No. 2, intituled " An Ordinance for imposing a Rate upon Property," and for repealing the " Customs' Ordinance," Session 1, No. 3, and the " Customs' Amendment Ordinance," Session 3, No. 6," it is enacted that the said " Customs' Ordinance," and the said " Customs* Amendment Ordinance," be repealed. And it is thereby also enacted, that there shall be levied in manner thereinafter mentioned, in respect of Property and Income, a yearly rate according to the scale in the Schedule to the said Ordinance annexed. And whereas it is expedient that the said recited Property Rate Ordinance, Session 4, No. 2, should be repealed, and that the Duties imposed upon Goods imported into the Colony, and all the provisions made for the regulation and protection of the Revenue of Customs, by the said •' Customs' Ordinance," and the said " Customs' Amendment Ordinance," should be revived. 1. Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, that the said recited " Property Rate Ordinance," shall be repealed, and that the said " Customs' Ordinance," Session 3, No. 6, shall henceforth be of the same force and effect, to all intents and purposes, as they respectively were at, or immediately before, the passing of the said recited " Property Rate Ordinance." 2. Provided always, that all arrears of Rate and Composition due under the provisions of the said recited " Property Rate Ordinance," on the thirtieth day of April, and all penalties and forfeitures incurred on or before the said thirtieth day of April 1845, for a breach of any of the provisions of the said Ordinance, shall still be recoverable in manner therein prescribed, anything hereinbefore contained to the contrary notwithstanding. 3. This Ordinance shall come into operation at the Port of Auckland, on the day next following the passing hereof —at eveiy other Port of Entry within the Colony, on the day next following the receipt of a Copy hereof by the principal Officer of Customs at any such Port, who is hereby required, immediately upon the receipt thereof, to give public notice of the same, and at all other places throughout the Colony, on the ninth day of April 1845.
