INDIA.

Calcutta papers to May 11, beiug a few days later than had previously been received, came to hand yesterday. They contain no political news of importance. Lord Ellenborough was in Calcutta, and appeared to be settling himself down quietly, just as his recal was determined upon in England. The Ameers of Scinde had arrived in Calcutta, and were to be lodged in a fort in the vicinity. It will be remembered that some troops stationed at Ferozepore had refused to proceed to Scinde without obtaining the allowances usually granted when soldiers proceed on foreign service, which was refused on the ground that Scinde had been conquered, and formed part of the Company's territory ; one regiment, the 34th 8.N.1., was disbanded, and the others then obeyed the orders and marched for Scinde. Major-General Casement died in April. He has been in active service from 1797, and had never been off duty during that period. Admiral" Sir W. Parker touched at Calcutta on his way to England ; he was feted by both military and civilians. Sir George Arthur's family had proceeded to England, and it was presumed that Sir George intended shortly to follow them. The Mauritius papers publish an order dated Fort William, June the 13th, declaring Mr. W. W. Bird, senior member of Council, Provisional Governor-General ; the Directors of ihe East India Company having, in the exercise of the power vested in them by law, removed the right lion. Edward Lord Ellenborough from that office. — Sydney Morning Herald.
