MACHINERY IN COAL MINES.

AUCKLAND, October 28. Scarcity of miners and the risk of labour troubles was briefly touched upon at tlio annual meeting of tho Northern Coal Company, Ltd., to-day. It was stated that a coal cutter had recently been imported ancT was a success. Several speakers referred to such machines being necessary to keep tho industry going in case of labour trouble at any time. The chairman of directors said the company could do with 20 or 30 more miners, and the Taupiri Coal Company required men. If they could not get men they must have machinery, and as machinery had been proved to be tho cheapest the directors were doing the right thing in importing it.
