WELLINGTON CATHOLIC CLUB
The eighteenth half-yearly meeting of the- Wellington Catholic Club was held in the club-rooms last week. The president of the club (Very Rev. Father O’Shea) presided, and was supported dj the Rev. Father Venning (vice-presi-dent). ' , j The report for the half-year showed the club to be in a very flourishing state, all departments showing marked progress. The preliminary steps taken by the joint Committee towards building a new hall was placed before members, and from the enthusiasm displayed, it is confidently anticipated the Canvassing Committee’s appeal will be heartily responded to. The balance-sheet disclosed the finances to be in a flourishing state, a credit balance of <£23 6s 2d being carried forward to the current half-year. , ~ . ~ A motion to repeal the rule regarding the payment of lionoraria to the hon secretary and hon. treasurer was lost. An interim report on the club’s library was read and approved. The election of officers resulted as fol-lows-.—Patron, his Grace Archbishop Redwood; president, Very. Rev. Father O’Shea; vice-presidents, yen. Archdeacon Devoy, Rev. Fathers Moloney, Kinibell, and Venning, Messrs M. Kennedy, M. O’Connor, C. P. Skerrett. J. J. Devine, A. H. Casey, and E. J. Fitzgibbon; spiritual director, Rev. Father Kim bell; hon. secretary, J. McGowan; non. treasurer, J. O’Leary; executive, Messrs W. Hamilton, H. McKeowen, J. J. Gibbs, P. McGrath, A Searle T. Bovce, A. Amodio, R. Duffy, and . F. Eller; hon. auditors, Messrs E. J. Fitzgibbon and F. P. Kelly. .O' A resolution was passed, placing , on record the great loss sustained by the club by the death of one of its most esteemed vice-presidents, Very Rev. Father Lewis. Mr H. McKeowen having relinquished the office of hon. treasurer, which he had held for several terms, the meeting resolved to place on record its appreciation of Mr McKeowen’s valuable services.
