LADY HOCKEY PLAYERS.

THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. “In presenting the first annual report -of the Wellington Ladies' Hockey Association, your committee is pleased to be able to congratulate you on the phenomenal success and prospects of the Association, a gratifying feature being the keen interest Bhown generally during the past season, which was the inauguration of the association. The general interest in the game by both players and the public generally calls for special comment, and should merit the success the game deserves, especially amongst ladies. The number of clubs competing last season was six senior and four junior. Six teams were entered for the senior championship and twelve for the junior championship. The prospects for the coming season are exceptionally good, more new clubs desiring to affiliate with the association. The question—of grounds will have to be seriously considered in tbe near future. •The Newtown Park-lias been very unsatisfactory during the past-.,season, the damp nature of the ground rendering it necessary (should there be much, or little rain during the week), for the caretakerto refuse to allow any matches to be played on it. “Some of the clubs will have to immediately consider changing their colours, as there is too much of a sameness about them, which makes it difficult for referees to distinguish one player from another in championship matches, and this is of vital importance to all concerned. The senior championship was won by the Kiwi Club with an unbeaten record, and that club is to be heartily congratulated on its performance. The Victoria College Ladies' Club is to be congratulated on securing second place. The junior championship was also won by the Kiwi Club, and that team is also to be congratulated on- its performance. The Wellington Girls' College are to be congratulated on securing second place in this championship; and St. .loan’s Ladies’ Club are to be sincerely congratulated on the good fight they made, being only one point behind Girls’ College, and having had to play off with Kiwis for the championship. Your committee recommends the inauguration of a third-class championship this coming season. The following table shows the official record of the senior championship last season

r ‘± ive representative matches were played during the season, viz.: Against

Craven College, Wairarapa (senior); Marlborough, Wairarapa (junior), the association losing the former and winning the last three. A junior representative team also journeyed to Masterton, and played a return representative match against vVairarapa juniors, defeating them by two goals to one. The thanks of the association are sincerely offered to Dr Izard for the interest he has taken in the affairs of the association, and to the gentlemen who refereed in the various matches. The warmest of the association are due to Dr A. W. Izard for presenting a solid silver cup for competition in the senior championship, and to Mrs S. A. Rhodes for presenting a solid silver cup for competition in the junior championship. The vice-presi-dents of the association are heartily thanked for forty-four solid gold pins presented to the association for the winners of the senior and junior championships and the runners-up in each case respectively. The financial position of me "association is considered sound and satisfactory.'” The following motions will come up Mr J. D. Mclntyre to move—To insert before the word “president” in rule 3 the words “a patron;” rule s—To delete the present rule and add instead“ That each club shall be entitled to two delegatee, to be elected at the annual general meeting of each club;” new rule 15, club contests —“That all 'matches shall commence not later than 2 p.m. If for any reason play shall not commence at the time appointed, the referee, having blown his whistle, shall declare the club unwilling or unable to proceed with the match to have lost by default.” Miss Macke!tar to move new rule—“ That the Championship Committee shall have power to classify all teams.”
