MARINE ENGINEERS

At an ordinary general meeting of the members of the Wellington district of the Australasian institute of Marine Engineers yesterday it was decided to confirm the purchase of a valuable section at the corner of Aitken and Mulgrave streets, Wellington, on which it ia intended to erect a three-storied build' mg, suitable to the requirements of the institute, in accordance with the rules governing i the institute;' a ballet had already been taken empowering th® executive to acquire the property mentioned, which was purchased outright for ,£1230. The section measures 30ft frontage to Mulgrave street, w T ith a depth to Aitken street of 96ft., The position is in proximity to the terminus of the city section of the tramway service, and only eight minutes’ w r alk from the Queen’s Wharf. It is considered eminently suitable for the purpose for which it is intended. The matter is now left in the hands of the executive, to deal with the question of erecting a building which will be-replete with everything which , will tend to the comfort of members, a large general meetingroom, library, reading-room and billiardroom for the use of the members. The building when complete will be a credit to the institute, and an ornament to the city. It should meet a long-felt want among the officered sea-faring community.
