A COAL HULK SINKS

INSURED FOR £2OOO. LYTTELTON, April 6. The Blackball Coal Company’s hulk Blackball lay at the No. 4 wharf last night receiving coal from the s.s, Petone, and discharging coal into the dredge Manchester. At 8.30 p.m. the men working on the forward end of the hulk noticed an inrush of water, the vessel having sprung a leak, it is supposed, through the opening of a seam.

The water gained rapidly, and in twenty-five minutes tlie bulk sank in thirty feet of water. All on board got ashore. The hulk is insured for £2OOO in the Alliance office, £IOOO being on the hulk, and £IOOO on her cargo. She had 1300 tons of coal on board when she sank.
