VALPARAISO CITY ALMOST DESTROYED. VARIOUS ESTIMATES OF THE KILLED. FROM THREE HUNDRED TO THREE THOUSAND. LONDON, August 22. Another heavy shock has been experienced at Valparaiso, almost completing the destruction of the city. The Governor of Valparaiso estimates, at a minimum, that three hundred people were killed, and eight hundred wounded. Private individuals say that the number killed is nearer three thousand. The Governor gays Valparaiso has been totally destroyed, and that it will be necessary to demolish all that remains. The chief of the police estimates that 90 per cent, of the buildings were destroyed. The fires in Valparaiso have been suppressed, dynamite being largely used to cheek the Spread of the flames. Many looters were shot summarily under martial law. The destruction of chemists’ shops, at Valparaiso is interfering with the work of succouring the injured. There are sufficient provisions in the city to last a month. The inhabitants are not depressed; many are in high spirits. MORTALITY AT LIMA CHE. THREE HUNDRED ACCOUNTED FOR. INMATES OF A CHARITABLE HOME PERISH. LONDON, August 22. Two hundred bodies have been interred at Limaehe. sixteen miles from Valparaiso. A hundred bodies are lying unburied. * A nun, together with sixty inmates of a charitable home, perished at Limaehe. MEASURES OF RELIEF. SOME HANDSOME SUBSCRIPTIONS! REBUILDING THE CITY. LONDON, August,22. The Californian Relief Committee has cabled a donation of ten thousand dollars for the assistance of the Chilian sufferers. Argentina is sending warships laden with provisions. Help is also forthcoming from other directions. The Chilian Government proposes to make an appropriation of a hundred million dollais (£20,000,000) for the reconstruction of Valparaiso. Among the latest reports it is said that QuUotta, a town of eleven thousand inhabitants, twenty miles northeast of Valparaiso, is totally destroyAdvices received at New York state that the earthquake destroyed Juan Fernandez (“Robinson Crusoe s island), four hundred miles east of \ aiparaiso. „ HuacHo, a few miles further north, was also shaken.

The residence of Don Pedro Montt, the Presidentelect, collapsed, and his wife fell from a balcony into the street. Thieves out off her fingers and earn in order to secure her jewellery. Sen ora Montt has been conveyed to a warship, apparently in a dying condition. \
SOME DETAILS OF THE DISASTER VALPARAISO, August 24.
During the recent shocks the Oatomnn copper mines collapsed. Ihirtyseven persons were killed. Thirty-eight out of forty telephonists in Valparaiso were killed. By the dynamiting of a building ruined by the earthquakes a man anti his wife, who had been entombed four days, were released. The telegraph and telephone lines between Valparaiso and Santiago have been restored. LONDON’S PRACTICAL SYMPATHY. LONDON, August 24. The London fund for the relief of the Chilian sufferers now amounts to £23.235.
