Miss' Berta Greenfield, sister of Mr Jbfiit Greenfield, of Blenheim, and well known hi Wellington, leaves on a visit to England in November. Mr Thomas Duncan, for many years secretary to* the- Masterton Racing Cltib, has resigned that office; in order to' enter into business with Mr A. C. Elliott, of Wellington. EBerr Van dor Velden, the Dutch' artist, who has Been resident at Seatoun for - some time- past, has a strikingly good local study in oil® on exhibition at McGregor- Weight’s. The- subject is the interior of a fisherman’s hut at Lyell Bay, and the “ pivot ” of the picture is the- bright-eyed- old Greek, who, wearing- a- woollen tam-o-’-shan+er, sits before tho great open fireplace, where a roaring fee; iis heating up the evening meal, and', incidentally, lending a dash of colour to’everything-on which its ruddy light; plays-. Beside the- fire is a big net,, and there- are other evidences of tile simple life in the picture-, which well worth inspection..
