TAKAKA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday last, 11th inst., the Gollingwood and the East Takaka footballers met at Gollingwood to contest the last match between them, and de* spite the heavy rain which fell on that day the game was played, and resulted in a win for East Takaka by fl;x points to nil. This places the latter club on level terms with the Golden Bay team, so that they will have to play off to efce which is to hold the cup for the year. Given a fine day there will he a great game for the final, and no doubt a large concourse of spectators will witness the match. The reetult of the first election of the Nelson Education Board under the new Act was announced last week, the result being that three of the old mom. bed's were defeated (Messrs Atmore, Talbot and Phillips), and those elected „ were Messrs Lock, Smith, Maginnity, Franltlyn, Buekc, Baigent, Bailie, Shepherd and Fair. The voting for each ward was as follows: —East Ward: W. Lock, 71; A. T. Magi unity, 70; F. Smith, 70; H. Atmore, GG; G. Talbot, 48; Rev. Mackenzie, 35. Middle Ward: W. N. Franklyn, 126; Bueke, 103; T. J Baigent, 83; L. D. Easton, 75; G. H. Allan, 67; Phillips, 58; J. Guy, 21. West Wal'd: Bailie, 79; Shepherd, 76; Fair, 67; Larsen, 25. The hearing of the compensation case P. Hunter versus tho Takaka County, commenced last Wednesday, and after sitting for three days taking evidence, etc., the Court adjourned until next month. There are some eighteen or nineteen more -witnesses to be examined yet, sio in all likelihood the case will extend to nearly another week’s hearing. A team of footballers representing the Golden Bay Union leave here next week on a short tour. They play two matches in the Wairarapa and one each at Blenheim and Nelson, when it- ie expected that they will give a fairly good account of themselves 1 .
