STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Gorrespondent). There arc now nearly one hundred men engaged on the Mt. Egmont railway works. • A petition to the Commissioner of Police is now in circulation for signature asking that Constable Ryan he not transferred from Stratford. The six-year-old daughter of Mr Reid, Badiifor Road, was* admitted to the Stratford private hospital suffering from severe burns about the arms and shoulders. It appears that, with other children, the little girl had been left in a room, and got to the fire, her clothes becoming ignited. Her bro>thei'i, eleven years of age, with great presence of mind wrapped the child in a bag, extinguishing the flames, and carried her to a neighbour'd house, where she was attended to pending the arrival of Dr Paget. The little patient is now recovering. Mr Garrat Wilson, of Stratford, has purchased the stallion Democrat at Sydney. Mr Wilson will probably buy another horse before leaving Sydney. The Stratford Dairy Company has sold its next season’s output for lid per lb. The Mangatoki Butter Co, has also sold for a good price. The Midhirst Dairy Co. has sold for 10|d per lb. Taranaki farmers look forward to the best season on record, and every dairy farm will nio doubt he stocked to its possible limit.
