GREYMOUTH.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Greymouth branch of the Hibernian Society entertained some two hundred of their friends at a progressive euchre tournament in the St. Columbia rooms on August Ist. A most enjoyable time was spent by tuoso present, songs and recitations filling up the latter part of the programme, whilst refreshments were handed round by members of the ladies’ committee. The ladies’ prizes wero won by Mrs M. McDonald and Miss M. Roche, and the gentlemen’s prizes by Messrs T. Burke and McGrath. The president, Mr O. Egden, addressing thoso present, said he hoped they had spent a good time, and he was pleased to welcome the visiting members representing the various lodges. It was unfortunate that the gathering clashed with the football bazaar; an endeavour had been made at the last moment to postpone the tournament, hut it was found that it would be most inconvenient, as all arrangements had been made. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. Tho friends of Mr J. A. Lutz, formerly host of the Royal Hotel, will ho pleased to hear that he has taken over the Victoria Hotel, Newtown, and is doing very well. The Greymouth Football Club’s bazaar at the Opera House was opened by Mr Joseph Petrie (president of the club) on Wednesday night, and was continued till Saturday night. The object was i® raise funds for the Canterbury tour of the Grey footballers. The “draw” of the bazaar was the dancing under the management of Miss Campbell. The stall-holders were as follows Hockey, Mesdames W. Thomas and Schaef; cricket, Mesdames Okey, E. Thomas, and Miss Campbell; football, Mesdames Campbell and McGlashan; refreshment, Misses O’Donnell and Noonan; bran pie, Mr Levien. In addition there were numerous side-
