WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.

The Land Board met. on Thursday, the Commissioner (Mr John Strauchon) presiding. Also presents—Messrs J. Stevens, A. Reese, J. Dawson, and J. Robinson. - TRANSFERS. The following transfers were approved on usual conditions:—Section 95 and part of 96, block 4, Kopuaranga, W. A. Oliver to C. Oliver; sections. 8 and 9, block 9, JEautapu. W. A. Officer to W. Irvine; sections 7, 8 and 9, block 1, Tiriraukawa, D. Tod to R. J. Tod; section 4, block 10, Aohanga, E. Robertson to H. E. Burling; section 6 block 11, Makotuku, H. G. Minson to J. Berry; section 32, Rakautora Village Settlement, A. J. L. Hughes (deceased) to J. McKay; section 5, block 1, Umutoi, A. E. Poppe to M. Mouton; section 5, block 1, Maungakaretu, F. Henderson to E. M. Collier; sections 27 and 29, block 4, Apiti, F. A. Poppe to F.O. H. Mouton; section 45, blocks 15 and 16, Ngamatea, A. Robinson to William Tod. T. A. Lewis applied to transfer section 41, blocks 3,4, 7 and 8, Mangawhero, to R. Lilburn.—Resolved to refuse transfer, as Mr Lilburn is not an eligible transferee. J F. Bell applied to transfer section 17, block 5, Karioi, to M. H. King, and section 18, to Miss Elsie King.—Approved, subject to Mr Bell having made the necessary arrangements with the sub-lessees already accepted by the Board. H. H. Renck applied to transfer section 49, block 10, Pukeokahu, to William Old. —Decided to refuse transfer, Mr Old not being an eligible transferee. An application from H. O’Donnell, to transfer section 13, block 8, Tiriraukawa, to P'. Munro, was declined. It was decided to exempt T l . H. Henderson from residence to date, and approve transfer by him of section 7, block 4, Ngamatea, to J. M. B. Collier, subject to sixth year’s improvements being effected, and incoming tenant undertaking to -reside. SUB-LEASES. J. B. Hawe’s applied to sub-let section 5, block 14, Manganui, to H. G. Ritchfield, on different' conditions to those approved by the Board conditionally, on June 29th last. —Resolved to approve for three years without right of renewal. C. Swaysland’s application to sub-let section 112, block 13, Belmont for twelve months, at a rental of 7s per week, was approved, subject to Minister’s consent, and provided an eligible tenant is obtained. Sub-leases approved subject; to usual conditions: —R. H. Taylor, section 18, Horowhenna Village Settlement, to J. Davison for 12 months at a rental of £2 10s monthly; Mrs Isabella Munro, sections 1 and 2/ block 10, Hautapu", to Thos. W. Muir, for 5J year© at an annual rental of <£l49 9s. MISCELLANEOUS. On behalf of S. Sorensen, Mr F. F. Haggith, solicitor, wrote requesting that the former be allowed to reside on his wife’s freehold section across the railway line at Kairanga.—Resolved that the Board has no power to grant the request. 'With reference to the disposal of section 20, block 3, Puketoi, a report was received from the ranger.—Decided to allot tile section to T. J. Allen, the adjoining owner, in terms of section 114 of the Land Act. 1892, at 20s per acre. On a ranger’s report it was resolved to recommend to the Minister for favourable consideration the application of R. A. Wilson to have about six and a half acres at the back of nis section (No. 8 block 7, Makuri), added to his holding, in order to secure a better fencing line. Applicant to pay cost of survey. Additional areas were also granted to J. Kelly (Makuri), and J. Holland (Makuri). E. Barnett wrote stating that his section (No. 4, block 6, Kaitieke) is classified as “scrub” land and exempt from rent and rates for two yeans. He asked that the period be extended to four years. —Granted.

It was decided to obtain a report from the ranger as to occupation of ( lands in Pongaroa township. A report was received from the ranger on S. McCullough's application for part of section 13, block 1, Aoh'anga, adjoining his section, so as to give him better access. —Decided to allot to applicant the south-west portion between section 24 and the road, at 25s per acre. It was resolved to re-offer section 1,. block 11, Kaitawa, at the original price of 255, per acre, weighted with improvements. reduced from <£3ol 12s to .£240 4s. Also to re-offer section 87, block 8, Belmont (Normandale settlement) at the original price of £BO 8s 4d per acre, inclusive of the filling and grassing valued at £3. The application from B. S. James to lease forty five acres of section 5, block 9. Hautapu, was referred to the Scenery Commissioners to deal with. A report was received from the ranger on P Casey's request to be allowed to make bricks on section 3D. Matawa Village Settlement. Bequest approved on usual conditions and provided that there ♦is no excavation below the road level. The Under-Secretary, Public Works Department, applied for permission for the contractors for the erection of the Makatote viaduct to cut about 1000 tons of firewood near the site of the works, for fuel for the engines, etc. —Besolved to approve the request for 1000 cords of dead and fallen timber; royalty to be charged under class 7 of schedule (timber regulations); no timber suitable for sawmilling purposes to be cut for firewood; the operations to be under the supervision and inspection of an officer of the Board. Two applications were received (from James Phelps and from Workman and Sons) for section 7a, block 9, Tiffin. —Decided to refer matter back to applicants to see if they would be willing to arrange for a division of the section between them, provided they are eligible to hold the land in addition to their present holdings. It was resolved to approve of a year to ?ear lease of section 20, block 1(1 Hauapu. to D. Doak, subject to the Government's and local authorities' right bo free Access at any time Tor the purpose of getting and removing gravel without

payment or compensation of any sort for damage done. It was agreed to grant a year to year lease of sections 8,9, 10, 12, and 13, block 5, Pohangina township, to the Pohangina County Council, at an annual rental of 10s and on the usual conditions. Decided to allot section 14, block 8. Tiriraukawa, to R. Scandlyn. This has hitherto been withheld for forest purposes. Regarding Mangatoro township reserve it was decided to advertise for three months that it is withdrawn from sale, and in the ©vent of no objection being raised, to then allot it to C. G. Engstrom. A report was received from the ranger with reference to the disposal of sections 4 and 5, block 3, Puketoi, hitherto withheld for milling purposes. —Resolved to withhold the sections from sale for the present, T. Hunter applied to have section 18, block 3, Makotuku, allotted to him.—Declined, the section being withheld for milling purposes, and as applicant's present section is not contiguous to it. Five settlers in the Normandale settlement applied to have a strip of land 3ft wide through section 67 set. apart so as to give access to sections 68, 64, 63, _ 62, and 61.—Resolved that when section 67 is leased it shall be subject to an easement in favour of the occupiers of sections 61, 62, 63, and 64. such easement to extend to a width of 6ft along the northern and ea-stern boundaries of section 67, so a© to allow of walking access to the other sections named. An application was received from M. P. Mai for lease of section 48, block 7, Pohangina, and nermission to take any totara posts or blocks obtainable. Resolved not to approve application, and to withdraw the reservation and divide the section into two sections and ofier same to public competition. A. Mi liner applied for an extension of his temporary lease of section 31, Mangaweka Village Settlement. —Decided to inform applicant that the land is shortly to be offered for public competition when he could apply for it with others. Permission was declined to Mrs Kennedy to cut timber on. the Aorangi 3b block.

It was decided to withdraw from sale section 14a, block 4, Puketoi, with a view to allotting it to C. S. Hyland at 27s 6d per acre.
