A TRAGIC INCIDENT.
MAN DIES ON A FOOTBALL FIELD. The football match played at Miramar on Saturday between representatives of the firms of S. Danks and Son and A. and T. Burt, Ltd., was marked by an incident that drove all thoughts of Rugby supremacy into the background. After about half an hour’s play,, Richard Robertson, a coppersmith, employed by Danks and Son, who wa® playing among the forwards, was seen to fall. Play was stopped, and the teams gathered round to render what assistance they could. The poor fellow was carried off the field, but on being laid on the ground again, expired. Artificial means were resorted.to for about an hour to restore respiration, but without avail. Failure of the heart’s was the cause of death. It is not known that the deceased received any injury in the course of the gameIf he did, he made no complaint. The* deceased,’ who was thirty-six years of age, was married, but was without children. He resided at Hopper street. He had been in the employ of Danks and Son for eight years, and was regarded as a healthy man. He did not play football regularly, and only took part in the match to make up the number of the team.
