Mr Hugo Gorlitz visited. New York last month to complete arrangements for the American tour of Kubelik, who is to give one hundred concerts throughout the United States and Canada, for which a sum of £50,000 has been guaranteed in advance, and should the takings exceed a certain margin, the star’s princely portion will he still further augmented. This will be easily the largest contract ever made for any artiste in any part of the world. In London and New York Mr Gorlitz received eighty-two applications for the important post of press representative for this great undertaking, and after going through the list, he telegraphed the appointment to Miss Agnes Murphy, a lady journalist who visited New Zealand last year. She, however, was unable to accept the offer, owing to the heavy demands on her time as a descriptive writer for the American and Canadian Newspaper Syndicate*
