LADY'S LETTER FROM GREYMOUTH.

On Tuesday afternoon at the residence of Mrs H. Harley, a large number of friends ofltrs and Muss Easson assembled to bid them good-bye. Miss Easson Was presented with a handsome keepsake from her many friends. Afternoon tea was handed round, and a very pleasant Afternoon was spent. The Enks at Gmoto were well patronised on Saturday and keen interest was taken in the events. The final for the Ladies’ Championship (18 holes) was won by Mies H. Skoglund, Miss Petrie being a dose second. The game was most interesting and caused much excitement. The semi-final of the Junior Championship- was played on {Saturday and resulted in a win for Mrs Browne who beat Miss Hambleton, 2up and Ito play. The final between Miss Roger® and Mrs Browne was won by the former by 1 up at the ninth hole. A large number of lady friends of Mrs Easson. assembled in Trinity Hall to make a presentation to Mrs and Miss Easson, who were on the point of leaving for Wellington l . Archdeacon York made the presentation and gave a suitable address in which he expressed the sincere regret of all Mrs Easson’e friends at her departure. The presentation consisted of a beautiful silver tea tray, suitably engraved, with a handsome silver sugarbasin and cream jug. Trinity Hall was well filled on Wednesday evening for the performance of "Judge Not," a drama written by Miss Haora Rohloff. Among those taking part were: Miss Maysel Parkinson, the Misses Balia and Lena Rohloff, GladyeXHannan, Rosalie Bade, Annie and Nellie Hoglund, Ida de Berry, Thelma Watt, Masters Sid Holmes, B. Tindale, Allan Petrie, and I). McKechnie, while Miss Lily Cottle acted as accompanist. The Misses Yarrall gave a very enjoyable party at the Skating Rink in farewell to Miss Mable Easson. The early part of the evening was devoted to rinking, while dancing filled up the latter part of the programme. Mr and Mrs W. R. Kettle have enjoyed their trip to the Old ountry immensely. They leave for' New Zealand on September the Bth, and will arrive in Greymouth about the. end of November. Mr and Mrs Easson left for Wellington on Thursday, a large number of friends being on the wharf to say good-bye. A most enjoyable dance was held at the Opera House on the evening of the sth, when the first annual hall of the Trinity Hookey Club took place. About seventy couples attended, the members of the Westport Ladies’ Hookey Team being present by invitation. Everything went off ■ smoothly, the music, floor, and the refreshments being all that could be desired, and a most enjoyable evening was spent by those present. On Wednesday afternoon an interesting event took place,' when_ Master Rooney was presented with the Watkin’s medal, which is yearly awarded to the best student in Greymouth School. Master Rooney is now studying at Christchurch, and is at present home for a short holiday. The Westport Bodies’ Hookey Team is at present visiting Greymouth, playing the. local teams. They will proceed to Hokitika, and from there will then play Reef ton. Several good matches are expected t-o take place and much interest is aroused, as the Westport Team is known to be a formidable opponent. ... . Mrs and Miss Perotti who have been visiting the Australian colonies for the past eighteen months, will return to town on Monday next. Miss L. Davidson left Kumara on Tuesday by the Christchurch coach en route for England. She was accompanied by her cousin, Miss Walker,;w]iq is going on a holiday trip. Miss Davidson intends to spend a few weeks in 'Australia before going to Ehgland. Mrs Bird, of Westport, is at present on a visit to town. The Misses Sweetman left on the morning of the sth by the Otira train for Christ church, where they are going to reside in the future. Miss Chattock, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs G. W. Sampson, has returned to flee ft on. The Mawhera Ladies’ Hockey dub are giving a dance in the Opera House in honour of the visit of the Westport team. A good attendance is expected. On the sth inst the teachers and scholars of the Grey High School made presentations to Miss ‘Dixon and Miss Scott, who are leaving the district. Miss Madge Scott was the happy recipient of a silver-mounted brush and comb, and Miss Dixon received a silvermounted hairpin box.
