The “Liberal Herald” (No. .3) (for September is to hand and .contains much! matter of social, industrial and political interest. A leading article on Party. Government is well reasoned and well written. The “Voucber is dealt with cxmcisely up to ’.the date •of the institution of the Auditor-General’s .lrqr.iry, and is accompanied by facsimile praceGs<engravings of various Government vouchers. A supplement gives the summary report of the Auditor-Gei-eial, of August 30th. Extracts from northle speeches by New Zealand public men and portraits of Messrs A. W. Hc.gg, M.H!R., and the Hon. O. 'C. Bc-ven, the new Speaker of the Legislative Council, are good features of “the present number, “What has been done for Labour, since 1894” is a brochure which everyone should read. The public has a proverbially short memory and it. is well that- these matters in days of agitation and unworthy fault-finding should be kept before us “lest we forget.”. If the Liberal legislation of the Seddon Government, not only as directly affecting Labour but as regards land, shipping and other interest© were condensed into a handy book it might help many a. failing Liberal to “gird up the loins of-his mind” and stand staunchly by the men who have not been merely talkers, but have given abundant practical proof of their principles. We have received from the Hon. Secretary of the Wellington Accountant Students’ Society, volume I. of the Joint Transactions of the Wellington, Auckland, and Dunedin branches. Not Students merely but every accountant in the colony may find in these transactions much professional matter of great value. We wish the “Joint Transactions” many happy and instructive reappearances.

We have received for review “Saints and Sinners: a story of Five Years in the New Hebrides, by R. Lamb, M-A-M. 8.;” and Volume IH. of the “Times History of the War in South Africa.” Both will receive extended notice at a later date.
