The guest of the afternoon was in turquoise blue satin profusely trimmed with Roman embroidery, while fastened on the shoulder with a bunch of violets was a lovely coat of satin and lace, the whole adorned by a large white chiffon hat with blue shaded feathers and chiffon. Small tables were scattered about the hall, from which afternoon tea was served.

The French historic play “L’Aiglon” is at present on the boards, and, of course, the company are drawing gala houses, for we have been saving up our spare cash for the long expected Tittell Brune company for some time past. -> The annual ball given by the Auckland garrison officers was held in the gun room attached to the drill shed. The decorations were well arranged, the platform being fitted up as a drawingroom, while the drill shed itself was turned into a large and 'beautiful garden with seats and cosy nooks everywhere. Amongst others present were Mr and Mrs Arthur Myers, the latter in a turquoise blue silk, the front panel of skirt and the corsage of which were draped with rich cream lace, Mr and Mrs W. R. Bloomfield, the Misses Browning (2), Miss Eva Firth, Mrs and Miss Shera, Mr and Mrs J. R. Reed, Dr and Mrs Siharman, Mr and Mrs W. Coleman, the latter in ivory crepe de chine, elaborately tucked and finished with lace; Miss Ida Thompson, Dr and Mrs Purchas, Mr and Mrs Eliot Davis, the latter in cream satin, Mr and Mrs Ernest Davis, the latter in black velvet with rich g,ream iaoe, Colonel and Mi’s Holgate, Miss Philson and Mr and Mrs Tewsley, etc., etc. The Misses Jackson, “Holly Bush,” Remuera, have given a good-bye dance iu the Remuera Hall, for the building is to be pulled down and rebuilt at an early date. The music was supplied by Burke’s string baud. The guests, who were received by Mr and Mrs Jackson and their two daughters, numbered, amongst others, the Rev. H. L. and Mrs Snow, Mr and Mrs Proude, Mrs J. H. Bloomfield (captain), have left for Napier to take part in the Tournament. The present champion, Miss Eileen Lewis, is amongst tho number.
