WAIPUKURAU.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
A reciprocal courtesy reunion was given, bv our townspeople to the Hatuma settlers and the employees on the Mangatarata Station last Wednesday evening. The hall was tastefully decorated with evergreens and bunting, and a splendid dance floor was prepared, music for the dancing being supplied by Miss Moroney (piano). Messrs J, Cosgrove (cornet), ana O'Halloran (violin), and was excellent;. The M's.C. were assiduous in attentions, and about ninety couples enjoyed the hospitality. During intervals in the long and attractively arranged programme songs were sung by Miss Baskiville. Messrs Cramond, Johnston, and Falconer. Mr W. A. Chambers extended a cordial welcome to the guests on behalf of the committee of management, and Messrs G. Merrikin and L. McGreevy responded forHatuma and Mangatarata. The supper tables were beautifully laid, and oo'ntained infinite variety of the subtle sweet concoctions of the pastrycook. The Secretary, Mr Chambers, and the Refreshment and Management Committees may be congratulated upon the happy and. enjoyable result of their effort. The petition, asking that the village be constituted a Town Board, has been numerously signed, and has been forwarded to the House of Representatives. Juvenile apostles of temperance, technically known as members of the Band of Hope, are assembling in force at their meetings, and develop much latent ability as reciters and raconteurs, and are an interested audience when their seniors address them. Last week's meeting was distinctive for some singing very nicely managed,-and a dialogue excellently’spoken. '
