HAMUA.

The weather for the past week has been unusually good for the time of the year, although the roads in the district are very heavy for traffic. Farmers are taking advantage of the fine weather to get their oats out into chaff. The football matches in the Bush district for the championship have concluded, and ELonmi team have won the coveted ,honour. A free demonstration of dress-making by the Imperial system was given in the Hamua Hall by Mrs Dunstan to-day. There was a good attendance, and probably a class for tuition will be established. The Hukanui school was burnt down last Wednesday evening at about halfpast seven. The cause was a defective chimney. Some of the settlers hurried &t once to the school and succeeded in saving the contents of one of the rooms, but the roof of the other room fell in before they could save any of the contents. Mr Clark's social takes place on Friday evening, and many people have accepted invitations. Mr Charles Kilsby who has for a large number of years leased an educational reserve in Hamua leaves for Otaki this ■' For the purpose of buying more books for the local library a fancy dress ball is to be held on the twenty-fifth instant.
