A formal inquiry is to be held by the Wellington Education Board into the destruction by fire of the school at HTukanui. The cause of the fire is sot down to a defect in the chimney. A London cable message states that Queen Alexandra intends to spend a fortnight at Balmoral, in the Highlands, and will then go to Copenhagen, on a visit to her parents, the King and Queen of Denmark. Dr P. T. Putnam, who recently re*- s turned from England, has commenced the practice of his profession in Palmerston North. When the Gorlestown tramways are taken over by the Yarmouth Corporation, the men’s hours will be reduced from eighty-four to sixty per week. "Under the old company,” declares a member, “the men hardly knew their own. children.”
