Shortly after the declaration of peace in South Africa, the High Commissioner decided to send a party of Boers as agricultural delegates on a tour of British colonies to study and report upon the different methods of agriculture and stock-raising they saw. The delegates were selected irom amongst prisoners of war, and duly visited New Zealand. The results of this tour are set forth in a volume, “ Agriculture Within the Empire,” a copy of which has reached us from the Department of Agriculture at Pretoria. In referring to New Zealand, the delegates express their thanks to the Premier and the Secretary for Agriculture for the interest they displayed in the visitors’ tour. In conclusion, they say ; —“ It was with a feeling akin to sadness that we put out to sea, leaving behind us this land of snow-capped mountains, far-reaching fiords, luscious fruits, and fragrant flowers—the fairest of the Empire’s colonies, the Paradise of the South.” It is ‘understood that the City Council does not intend to advertise for a new City Treasurer, a. position that will become vacant- in a few weeks through the resignation of Mr J. E. Page. In all probability the duties will devolve upon Mr C. Collins, an old servant of the municipality, who has been chief accountant under Mr Page for many years.
Mr Frank Jones, for years touring manager for Fitzgerald’s Circus, died at Sydney Hospital from consumption on the 2nd fnst. Mr Jones was well known in all parts of New Zealand and Australia,
