Mr John Deehan, well known in Westland,' and latterly a resident of Wellington, died at the district hospital oin Wednesday night. Six weeks ago he went into the institution to undergo an operation. He was a native of King’s County, Ireland, and came out to the colonies at the time of the Bendigo gold rush, and afterwards tried his luck on tihe Westland goldfields. He worked at Charleston for years, then settled at Reefton, where he remained until six years ago. Since then he had resided in Wellington with his daughter (Mrs Devery). Mr Deehan was eighty years of age.

\ The death occurred at Pahiatua on Thursday of Mr W. S. Falconer, aged sixty-three years. Deceased was formerly in business at Pahiatua, and at Blenheim and Picton. He leaves a widow, three daughters, and a son.
