This was to receive and pay reverence to the remains of a number ‘of the departed that had been removed from their tem-po-ary rest ng-plnce, with a view of placing them in their last resting-place. Alongside the meeting-house recently erected at Awhata. and which also serves as a church, a platform had been erected, on which had been placed five conns, containing the remains of a number of those that had ‘c rssed the b' ’ some years ago. A number of skulls surrounded the coffins, which were partially covered by mats. During the morning, the Rev F. A. Bennett addressed those assembled, bout hundred in all. and in the afternoon, after Lamentations had been indulged in. M present sat down ‘r> n repast and care and anxiety seemed to disappear.
