The “Newry Telegraph” of June 29tli announces the death at Liverpool of Monsign or Nugent, unole of the Very Rev. Father Hays. The deceased was eighty-three yeax*s old, having been born in 1822. For many years he was a striking figure in religious and philanthropic circles, and was, during the greater part of bis long career as a priest, a prominent advocate of temperance. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia, contracted immediately after liis return front America, whither he had gone for the benefit of his health. A striking indication of the popularity of the deceased is that shortly before his death a movement was initiated to erect a statue of him during Ins life-time. Amongst others identined with the project were the Earl of Derby and Mr Cohen, formerly Lord Mayor of Liverpool, and a prominent member in the Jewish community of that city.
