Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at their Jolineonville Tuesday’s sale there was a full en 1 r.y of bullocks mostly of prime quality. The* market was cheap, and beef made \cp to 20s per 1001 b tor best quality. Best bullocks £8 10s, medium £8 to £8 ss, others £7 7s 6cl to £7 17© 6d. A heavy yarding of sheep came forward, including a line of extra prime ewes. The balance were only medium sorts. Heavy ewes 24s lOd, medium 20s 6cl to 22s lid, others 18s 9d to 20s 6cl, light 17© 2d. SOUTHERN STOCK SALES

CHRISTCHURCH, June 7

At Addington yards to-day the entries of stock, except fat sheep and fat cattle, were only fair. There was a moderate attendance. Beef showed a lecovery in values. Store sheep did rot meet with quite so' much inquiry, and fat lambs were about the same as the previous week. Fat sheep sold w r ithout change, except prime wethers, which were firmer. Heavy-weight baconers showed a little improvement, but other classes were again dull of sale. Dairy cows sold well, but there v r ere only a few odd lots of store cattle offeied.

Store sheep—A small entry, consistino* chiefly of wethers. Owing to the break in the weather they did not sell so freely as of late. The principal sales were 363 two and four-tooth wethers at 17 s 9d, 574 at I7s, 52 two-tooths at 14s 3d, 63 hoggets (wethers) at 15s, 100 at 14s 9d, 24 (shorn) at 14s Id, 107 at 13s 6d, and 139 aged ewes at 13s Id. Fat lambs —A moderate entry, which sold under good competition at late rates. Tegs 19. s 6d to 225, lamb weights 17s to 19s, lighter 16s to 16s 9d. Fat sheep—A fairly heavy yarding, including .some very prime lines of

withers, which ©old at slightly increased rates. Other classes of wethers and ewes brought about the previous week’s value. Prime wethers 22s +-o 255, extra to 26s lOd, medium 19© 6d to 21s 6d, light 17s 7d to 19s, prime ewes 19s to 225, extra to 2os, medium 17s 6d to 18s 9d, aged 14s to 17s. Fat cattle —The entry numbered 195, mostly prime quality. There were a number of lot© passed at first, but bidding improved, and the passed lots were afterwards sold, a good clearance being effected at improved rates. Eightsteers from Messrs H. D. and J. F. Buchanan (Kinloch) made £9 10s to £l2, ten steers from Mr A. Birdling (Lansdowne) £8 12s 6d to £lO 12s 6d, and thirteen steers from G. Geddings (Fernside) £7 to £8 10s. Other steers brought £6 12s 6d to £lO 2© 6d, heifers £5 7s 6d to £7 2s 6d, cows £4 7s 6d to £7 12s Cd (equal to 19s to 21s for prime, a, few extra at 225, and cows and inferior 15s to- 18s per 1001 b). A fair entrv of veal calves sold at 7s Gd to £3.

Store and dairy cattle —Only a few lots of store cattle were penned, and there was little demand. Calves ©old at 7s Gd to 13s, 18-months £2 13s, 21-year steers £4 2s Gd (passed), dry cow’s 29s to £2 17s. Dairy cows were in hri.sk demand. Best sorts sold at £8 to £lO 17© 6d, others £4 to £7 10s. Pigs—A medium yarding sold irregularly. Heavy’ haconers were in better request, and porkers were eas'er, while there was a dull demand for stores, which were mostly small. Light baconers made 85s to 40s, heavier 45© to 56© (equal to 3-1 cl to 4d per lb), porkers 23s to 32© (equal to 4d to 41 d per lb), medium stores 15s to 22s Gd, slips 11s to 14-s. weaners .5s to- 10©.
