THE SHOPS AND OFFICES ACT.

NOTHER MEETING OF PROTEST TO BE HELD.

At- a meeting of the Shopkeepers’ Association, held last evening, the fol--1 owing office-bearers were elected for mo ensuing year:—

President, Mr H. Seaton; vice-presi-dents, Messrs G. H. Bavlis and Edgar Jones; executive committee, Messrs Shand, Batkin, S. G. Ross, Kuch, Millington, C. H. Jones, E. Oakes, R. Brown, Ellison, Heginbot-ham, Fcwnes, and T. Inglis. It was arranged to hold another mass meeting, to further protest against clause 3 of the Shops and Offices Act, in tho Druids’ Hall next Wednesday afternoon.

Tho secretary (Mr H. F. Allen) was instructed to write to other centres Avith a vieAv to ascertaining what steps were being taken by the shopkeepers .Lore, and inquiring about the possibly of establishing a joint organisation.

Several now members AA’ere elected

A canvass of the city is to be made for the purpose of increasing the membership.
