Tno Liberal Federation of New Zealand has in contemplation the issue of a monthly magazine, to be called the £ Liberal Herald,” devoted to the dissemination of information concerning the Liberal party and authentic reports of the work of the Federation. To bring it within the reach of all, the annual subscription has been fixed at half-a-crown. The new publication, the first number of which will apqear in June next, is to contain from sixty to seventy pages of reading matter. An attractive prospectus has been issued, which contains interesting particulars of the publication department of the Liberal Federation. The Department of Agriculture has recently issued a bulletin on rust in oats, the information having been brought up-to-date by the Assistant Biologist, Mr A. H. Cockayne. In his introduction Mr T. W. Kirk (Biologist) mentions that during tho season before last fully 15,000 acres of oats in the North Island were damaged and rendered unfit for threshing. The season just ended was not so bad. Another bulletin deals with three species of fruit fl.es. Mr Kirk has reoently issued a leaflet on treating seed for the prevention of cereal smuts, whde second editions of the leaflets on plum diseases and black fly have also appeared.
