Fat sheep.—There was a good entry. The sale opened with a quiet tone, and before it had made much progress it became evident that a slump had arrived. Competition for wethers was extremely languid, and for ordinary ewes was nonexistent, with the consequence that wethers were on an average Is lower than at the previous sale, while ewes were 2s to 3s lower. A greater decline was marked towards the close of the sale, when it was difficult to get bids for ordinary grades of ewes, •which were neglected alike by butchers and by exporters. Store sheep and lambs.—The yards were again filled, the entries probably totalling IG.OOO. Farmers competed well for all descriptions, hut dealers gave little support to the sale. The demand For wethers was particularly keen, and forward lines made Is over the previous week’s values. For ewe© and lambs, previous rates were firmly maintained. The sale altogether was highly satisfactory to vendors, an almost complete clearance being effected. Wethers (four-tooth) made 21s to 22© Gd, two and four-tooth. 19s Id, twotooth 17s Gd to- 1 Q sd, backward lots lGs to 17s; ewes, four-tooth 20- to 21s 9d, two-tooth 18s lOd to 22s 9d. culls 16s to 17s, six and eight-tooth 19s to 20s 4d : sound mouth 18s 4d to 20s Bd, aged lGs Gd to 17s Gd, culls 13s Gd to 15s Gd.
