When at Dawson’s Falls mountainhouse a few days ago, the Eon C. HL Mills was waited upon by a deputation from the Egmont National Park Board, who urged the completion of the track Lately formed, and asked that the worst places should be metalled. The road from Hawera, via Xvaponga, is completed to within three miles of the mountain-house, but at that point vehicles have to be abandoned, and the rest of the track has either to be ridden or walked over. The deputation also asked for two more cottages (which would be self-supporting'), and that ambulance stretchers be supplied, as at Mount Cook. The Minister, who was welcomed as the first member of the Cabinet to visit the mountain-house, promised to> refer the matters favourably to Sir Joseph Ward. Minister for Tourist Resorts. Mr Mills is of opinion that the time is not far distant when the control of such places as the mountainhouse at Dawson’s Falls should he taken under the Tourist Department. In the hall of the Washington Anung Men’s Christian Association, President Roosevelt gave an address oil the equality of all men, irrespective of wealth, in the evee of the Republic.
