The late Mr Val Prinsep, the celebrated artist, left an estate of the gross value of £7288, bequeathed wholly to his wife. A portion of his will referring to his children reads—“l desire, under any circumstances, that they be brought up to believe themselves dependent on their own exertions, and that they may he started in whatever profession their talents may seem to point to, holding . the opinion that a man with nothing to do is necessarily dissatisfied, and consequently unhappy.” It was officially notified in London last month that King Oscar of Sweden has conferred upon Mr George R. Sims the knighthood of the Norwegian Order of St. Olaf, first-class. This high distinction has doubtless been conferred not only as a recognition of Mr Sims’s abilities as a journalist, but also as an appreciation of liis championship of the _cau.se of Mr Adol f Peck from the time of his first convction in 1898 until the time when his innocence was fully established.
