An interesting point regarding the wondrous Ituakuri caves, discovered some six months ago near Waitomo, in the King Country, is that the caves are on land held under lease from the Crown. The law that prevents a settler laying claim to any minerals found on lea sell o-ld property is said to reserve the right of ownership of these caves to the" 3 Crown. Meanwhile the leaseholder is collecting 3s from each person who wishes to inspect the caves, and that sum was demanded from and paid by the Hon (\ H. Mills and his party a few days ago. The Waitomo caves, two miles away, are on native land, and a charge of a head is made for inspection. Mr Mills is decidedly ol opinion that those caves should he under control ot the Tourist Department.
