THE YEAR’S TRANSACTIONS, The gross earnings of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, Ltd., for the year ending February 28th, 1905, were £127,732 17s, being £5550 greater than List year. The expenditure included —By traffic £43,139 14s lid, debenture interest £34,000, stores £24,000 Is Id, rollingstock and machinery £15,7.27 3s 7d, dividend £11,894 18s 2d, rates and taxes £5839 6s lid, directors’ fees £2728 4s lOd, construction £2476 Is lOd. land £9OB 17s 10d, commission and discount £725 18s, London office charges £544 9s 7d, auditors’ fees £2lO, refunds £lB3 15s lid, and interest £ll3 5s Bd. The liabilities show debentures £680,000, maintenance of line, insurance and contingencies £24,500. On the railway account the net profit for the year is shown at £10,389 7s Id, and on the land account a net profit of £5484 16s 4d. The assets include railway and rolling-stock £1,010,197 19s Id, less written-off £193,467 9s lOd; freehold lands £26,717 10s 7d ; balances due by land purchases £51,584 12s lid. Deposits—New Zealand Government 4 per cent, debentures £65,000, Bank of New Zealand £15,000, Equitable Building Society £9O, accrued interest £640. The cash balances held are —Wellington £4165 10s Bd, stations £45, London agents £536 7s, in transit to London £7000: total £11,746 17s Bd.
