Taumaranui, on the Main Trunk line, ranks as a native kainga, and besides being amenable to the laws that govern an ordinary township, the place is fenced in with certain laws that appertain to kaingas. The European dwellers Mo not like this state of things, and told the Hon O. H. Mills so when he visited the place a few days ago. The Minister is of opinion that the Government should acquire all township sites, to prevent any clashing of authority, or Europeans being restricted by the laws of kaingas. Air Mills states that the railway is constructed to a point sixteen miles south of Taumaranui.
