Considerable progress lias been made in cutting the new harbour channel at Nelson. It is expected that <m opening for steamers of 200 ft will be available in six months from date. The attempt made by Mr Charles Smith to lower the bicycle record between Wellington and Napier was abandoned at Eketahuna owing to the cyclist meeting a strong head wind. There arrived at Tunis last month, to be broken up, a vessel named the Maria Teresa, which in 1879, under the name of the Quisoambe, conveyed the body of the ill-fated Prince Imperial to England after his death in Zululand. Mr Leslie Williams, LL.B., is to act as organist and choirmaster of Knox Church, Dunedin, until a permanent appointment has been made to the position which was rendered vacant by tho death of Mr A. J. Barth.
