The East is not only the cradle of the human race, hut is also the birthplace of a large amount of human knowledge and of many excellent ideas. It is alleged that six hundred years ago, in India and Ceylon, medical practitioners knew that mosquitoes propagated malarial lever. Of more modern times, it is interesting to learn of the connection between the Asiatic societies in Ceylon and Great Britain ; and that the Horticultural Society of Bengal first gave the idea of the Royal Horticultural Sbciety in London. Still more, a recent visitor to the Straits alleges that the famous Sir Stamford Raffles, who founded Singapore, first suggested the London Zoological Society! Dr J. Me Gavin, M.D., F.R.C.S.E., has entered into partnership with Dr Chappie.
